ILLINI at the U20s & U17s

We highlighted the wrestlers who are ILLINI or who have direct connections. Of course, we want all of them to come to ILLINOIS. What a powerful group of wrestlers!

There was no Braeden Scoles and no reason given.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

From the #11 seed slot, Wyatt Medlin fought his way through the entire bracket and made the best of three Finals for the World Team. He ended up losing the third of the three matches 4-6 in a very tumultuous and controversial match. Still, he became a US Open Silver Medalist and World Team alternate.

Here's a short video showing highlights from Medlin's first match in the tournament with credit to Alice Cooper and FloWrestling:

After the first day, Kannon Webster remains on the Championship side of the bracket in the Quarters. He has scored 32 points in three matches to his opponents' 0. It'd be more but there's a mercy rule. Kannon's in the quarters against Tony Conetta of App State. Match #4305.

Will is deep in the consolation bracket and will have an all-ILLINOIS match in the morning versus Air Forces' Joe Fernau (St. Charles). Match #4344.

Here's a video sharing highlights from Will's and Kannon's first matches in the tournament with an assist from Daft Punk and FloWrestling:

Logan Swaw and Chris Moore wrestled a lot of matches back to back! These were huge brackets. After winning a bunch, Swaw's tourney came to an end. Charlie Fifield also won a match and scored points for the RTC at the tournament. Chris Moore is still in it and will face Jordan Chapman of New Jersey in the morning. Match #4355. Below is a short video showing highlights from their first matches at the US Open. Credit to Daft Punk and FloWrestling:

Additionally, Relentless Training Center is having a tournament! We saw Kai Calcutt take second at 110 kg in the U17 Greco bracket, while Jaxon Penovich finished fourth. The RTC has a number of other quality wrestlers at the tournament, and we'll update as time goes on.

On the second day of U20, Will Baysingar lost his first match. Chris Moore and Kannon Webster won. Here's a short highlight video from those wins:

Both Chris Moore and Kannon Webster lost in the next round. That was the end of the tournament for Moore. Kannon moved into the consolation bracket. He will be in the Consolation Semis for a shot at third place.

Kannon's loss was to PJ Duke, and it was basically a matter of losing two 50/50 positions during which one or the other would be thrown for four. I like Kannon to win .

With a 13-2 tech fall in the consolation semifinals, Kannon Webster moved into the Third-Place Match.

Wyatt Medlin has won his first two matches in the U17 Freestyle bracket at 65. Jimmy Mastny is cruising along as well. Haven't seen the other Relentless wrestlers, but we know they're there.

Wyatt Medlin goes on to win a Bronze at U17 Freestyle to go with his Silver in Greco. He beat an astonishing number of high seeds in both brackets. There were ~ 115 wrestlers in U17 Freestyle bracket. Medlin seeded #17, beat #16, #1, #4 and #3. Only 67 in U17 Greco Bracket. Medlin was seeded #11 and beat #4, #6, #3 and #10.

That's on top of going from 138 to 143.3 (65kg).

Dom Munaretto continued winning championships in both Greco and Free. Jaxon Penovich had a fourth-place finish in Greco. Kai Calcutt had an All-American finish in Free. Finally, there was this sighting at the US Open, which was very nice to see:

Did you notice those beautiful Orange singlets?

ILLINI ENTRANTS

You can expect huge brackets again at the US Open. There will be stiff competition with a lot of ILLINI and ILLINOIS kids up against the rest of the country. We've viewed a supposedly current list of entrants to the US Open, and there are plenty of ILLINI already listed in the U20 division, including the following:

65 kg WILLIAM BAYSINGAR

70 kg LOGAN SWAW

70 kg KANNON WEBSTER

70 kg CHARLIE FIFIELD

74 kg BRAEDEN SCOLES

79 kg CHRIS MOORE

We certainly could've missed somebody, so let us know with a comment if that happened. As we mentioned, it will not only be ILLINI wrestlers, but we'll also get to see some of the ILLINOIS wrestlers we've followed on national duals and Fargo teams like Tapia, Nosler, Gillum, Stauffenberg and lots more.

In the U17 bracket, you have WYATT MEDLIN at 65 kg Freestyle and Greco. No other recruits were listed that we found, but we also know that some of them have been busy with Greco and Freestyle state. There was a post on social media showing JAYDEN COLON as a repeat champion.

SPECIFIC DATES AND TIMES

Wednesday, April 24 is when the tournament starts, but it appears that that day will only wrestle U20 & U15 Greco. At this time, we didn't see any ILLINI listed in those categories. On Thursday, April 25, you have Wyatt Medlin kicking off his tournament with Greco prelims at 10:00 am.

We assume that means 10 am local time, but we don't know for sure because USA Wrestling stupidly doesn't indicate it. We found another source that confirms that these are Pacific Standard times. They will continue wrestling with afternoon sessions each day. Those start at 4 pm local time, while medal matches will be at 6:30 pm.

Friday, April 26 is when U20 Freestyle kicks off, and that's when you can expect to see most of the ILLINI wrestle, starting at 10:00 am. On Saturday, April 27 at 10:00, U20 Freestyle continues and U17 Freestyle starts. Finally, on Sunday, April 28, U17 Freestyle concludes.
