ILLINI FARGO CENTRAL

Because Fargo is so big, this post will mostly deal with Junior division wrestlers from ILLINOIS with a special emphasis on ILLINI recruits. We will be watching and cheering on the 16U field from our great state, of course, but most of the coverage will deal with the older boys. Your time will come, little ones!

We will update with important ILLINOIS stories and videos. Below you will find the latest statistics from Fargo, how ILLINI recruits did in their match ups so far, schedules for Junior and 16U division Freestyle, a bracket link, streaming information, and a list of registered ILLINOIS Junior athletes.

UPDATES

KANNON WEBSTER and BRAEDEN SCOLES are Fargo National Champions! Kannon even paid homage to Zane Richards with a Lezginka dance off the mat. CHRIS MOORE is a Fargo National Runner-up! The ILLINI recruits continued their domination of the tournament.

Webster was a 7-4 winner in the Finals over Cross Wasilewski of (Delbarton) New Jersey.

Scoles was a 9-4 winner over William Henckel of (Blair) New Jersey.

And Chris Moore dropped his finals match with Noah Mulvaney and finished with the title of Fargo Finalist.

Your ILLINI recruits who wrestled in the Fargo finals:

In the semifinals, Webster needed a clutch step-out point to beat Joy of Ohio 2-1. Scoles beat Ethan Birden, an Ironman runner-up and Ohio State commit from Ohio, by the score of 11-3. Moore defeated Pennsylvania state champ Holden Garcia in a tough man contest 12-7. Here are highlights:

Another Junior who won a National Championship for ILLINOIS was Rocco Hayes, who is also known as "The Bottleroccot" or "Tornado in a Jar." Congratulations to him!

ILLINOIS JUNIORS STILL IN THE MIX

The last Championship bracket round and the last two Consolation bracket rounds were pretty disastrous for ILLINOIS. Currently, the Juniors sit in a tie for 7th place with 21 points.

Wisconsin is the surprise leader with 49 points followed by a four-way tie at 42 between Iowa, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania. Then, you have California with 28 points.

You may recall that we predicted that Wisconsin would wrestle ILLINOIS in the National Duals final, but they crapped the bed at the last minute. Can they maintain a lead?

ILLINOIS has 13 wrestlers still alive in the competition, which is third most behind Pennsylvania's 21 and California's 16. The problem is that the states at the very top of the list have six or seven still on the front side of their brackets.

ILLINOIS only has 3.

ILLINI fans can be heartened by the fact that their recruits Webster, Scoles, Moore and Baysingar have done really well. In fact, it would've been a Fargo disaster if they hadn't shown up.

SEMIFINALS

100 Rocco Hayes; 145 Kannon Webster; 160 Braeden Scoles (WI); 170 Chris Moore

CONSOLATION BLOOD ROUND

120 Mendoza, Flores; 138 William Baysingar; 145 Noah Tapia; 152 Denny; 170 Kelly; 220 Nosler; 285 Ivanisevic, Barnhart, Schmitt

ROUND OF 16 ILLINOIS JUNIOR NUMBERS

The State of ILLINOIS has 12 left in the Championship bracket in the round of 16. There are 17 from the Land of Lincoln in the Consolation bracket. That means there a 29 left fighting for state pride and their Fargo dreams. Good luck!

106 - Akers, Championship; Garbis, Consolation

113 - Ducato, Championship

120 - Mendoza, Championship; Davis, Vasquez, Flores, Consolation

ALL STATE OF ILLINOIS WRESTLERS

The State of ILLINOIS, the greatest and strongest state in the Union, has a total of 32 wrestlers remaining in the Championship brackets for Juniors. Another 34 wrestlers are still alive in the Consolations. Only one weight (160) has no representative in the Championship bracket.

In the next round, there are two instances in which a pair of ILLINOIS wrestlers have to wrestle each other.

Brother against Brother.

All of the ILLINI recruits are still wrestling in Fargo. Here is the list of all ILLINOIS Juniors still in the game. ILLINI recruits and commits are in bold:

INDIVIDUAL WRESTLER UPDATES

Kannon Webster beat the tough state champ from Utah by tech, winning 10-0. Poor Colton Theobald didn't stand a chance! At least he can tell his grandkids that he did as well against Kannon as the national champions of Chile, Peru and Canada. Webster's next match will be in the round of 64 against Cullen of New York. There is no match # for it yet.

Next up for Kannon was Kieran Cullen of New York. The kid from Washington High School walked threw him as well. Here's the proof:

Kannon deserves to wrestle in front of better cameras and on top of less ugly mats. The mat you see in the video looks like it belongs in a basement unless the Wife says, "No. That thing has got to go!"

Kannon moves into the round of 16 with another tech fall, this was a 14-4 win over Krejsa of Indiana.

Kannon is into the quarters with a 5-0 win over Hibler of New Jersey. New Jersey liked to grab hands and not much else. Webster is still unscored-upon. In the next round, he faces another Indiana wrestler, Christopher Coates, a Purdue recruit.

Braeden Scoles had the 11-0 tech fall of the Missouri state champion Brandon Strick. He then faced Cobb of Idaho (who had a first-round bye) in the round of 128. It was match #4424 in your program.

Scoles beat Cobb 10-0 and is in the round of 64 against Wood of Ohio. Here's the video that proves Braeden beat that Cobb kid. (Child Advisory for violence):

Braeden Scoles is into the quarters as well. He has destroyed everybody in the bracket so far. The latest was Dailey of Pennsylvania by tech fall 14-4. So, he gave up a few points, buster, he has still teched or pinned everybody. He faces Thomas of Michigan next.

Wyatt Medlin had a tough Iowa kid named Wild in the first round. Medlin wore him down and won a three-two decision with a last :30 takedown--a beautiful single that he used to expose the awful kid from the Hawkeye state.

In the next round, the round of 64, Wyatt and his Ohio opponent were scoreless when the ILLINI-adjacent needed an injury timeout. Heard the ref say, "We need the bucket," which seems like a lot of blood. Kannon and a lot of ILLINOIS wrestlers watching the match. Wyatt would drop the match after all the exasperation from multiple blood timeouts.

But Wyatt Medlin is back!

He finished off Morgan of Michigan with a 14-3 tech fall. He was especially adroit at grabbing the single, fighting through the whizzer into the seat belt position, and then elevating the leg onto his, before a deadly finish. Who taught him that?

Day two of Fargo starts with Wyatt Medlin beating Markley of Kansas by an 11-0 tech fall. He will wrestle Spaulding of New Jersey in match #2224.

He beats Spaulding in a tough match 7-6. He'll have the winner of Webb of Oklahoma or Wirnsberger of Pennsylvania. Here's photo proof of the New Jersey win:

William Baysingar took care of a Nevada state champion by way of tech fall. Will showed that poor soul how good leverage beats bad leverage. He also made very smart and veteran moves on the mat. The tech fall looked a little something like this:

In the next round, Baysingar followed up with another tech fall. This one was by the score of 11-0, and he beat Chanden Reid of Utah. Will will have Isaiah Powe of Alabama in the round of 32. They recently met at National duals, with the future ILLINI coming away with a 16-6 tech fall.

Powe will almost always attack his opponent's right leg. Will did a great job in their match with his hand-fighting and his underhooks. That limited Powe's ability to hit his sweep single. Here's video of the match (Flo sub required).

Will began his day two of Fargo with a superb win over Powe. He limited the Alabamian's attacks and hit his own offense, including a gut wrench. His revenge match with Omar Ayoub of Ohio is next.

William lost to Ayoub and is in the consolation bracket now. But he just now teched his first opponent on the backside 10-0. The poor soul was Buttler from Indiana.

Anthony "Joey" Ruzic, an ILLINOIS Wrestling commit, is again "wrestling up" in that he's a rising Senior at Auburn High School, but is wrestling the older crowd in the Junior division. After a tough first-round loss, he's here putting a tech on the Oregon kid:

Ruzic continued his march to Fargo glory with an 11-0 tech fall over Strait of Colorado, the Austin DeSanto of the Rockies. Super leg attacks!

Joey Ruzic's Fargo came to an end against Desmond of Pennsylvania. Not before Ruzic had a mouthful of blood and some coaching from Zane Richards and Bryan Medlin:

He'll have his revenge in Junior Greco against the older kids.

Chris Moore took care of business in the first round with a pinfall of a Missouri state champion. Also, the eternal question was answered: Should you go Greco with the Greco Guy?

Answer: No.

Here is the video proof:

In the next round, he faced Riggin Boger--not making this up--from Utah. The Ute has a 73-0 record on Trackwrestling and won a state title and a freestyle state title this year in the Beehive State. Those things mean nothing to Chris Moore, who finished him off in 4:32 in a 14-1 tech fall. I guess Mr. Boger's record is now 74-1.

In the round of 32, Chris Moore became "Mr. Clutch." He scored with :04 left on Iowa state champ and UNI recruit Nick Fox, then held on to win the video challenge. That made it 6-4 for the pride of McHenry! Truly relentless attacks made the difference here. He has Michaelson of Washington in the round of 16.

Chris Moore ruined the Fargo dreams of Michaelson of Washington. He's into the quarters! He faces Queen of New Jersey. Queen is the #2 seed, but Chris can beat him.

FIRST-ROUND MATCHUPS

BRAEDEN SCOLES

160 (Wisconsin)

Braeden is the #1 seed at his weight, and will start in the *gulp* round of 256 against Braxton Strick of Missouri, a four-time placer and one-time state champion. Strick is headed to SIU-E for college. Note that I write *gulp* when talking about these large brackets, but the ILLINI recruits are used to this. Scoles' first match is #4020 for home viewers.

KANNON WEBSTER

145 (ILLINOIS)

Kannon has a bye in the *gulp* round of 256. In the next round, the round of 128, he will meet Colton Theobald of Utah, a one-time state champion in the five-class system that the Beehive state uses. Webster is the #1 seed, and it appears that Ryder Block has fled the weight to wrestle at 138. Smart move. Kannon's first match is #4302 for those watching at home.

CHRIS MOORE

170 (ILLINOIS)

Moore gets a bye into the round of 128, where he is slated to meet Elijah Sanders of Missouri. Sanders is a two-time placer one-time state champ, with that championship coming last season at 157. This will be match #4539 for those tracking and watching at home.

WILL BAYSINGAR

138 (ILLINOIS)

Our favorite Mt. Prospect wrestler (okay, a tie with Matt Wroblewski) also has a bye in the round of 256, and will meet up with Dominic Ruiz of Nevada in the round of 128. This is match #4277. From what I gather, Ruiz is a one-time state champ in a five-class system. Will is on course for a revenge match in the round of 16 with Ohio's Omar Ayoub.

ANTHONY "JOEY" RUZIC

120 (ILLINOIS)

In the 120 pound division, they start out *phew* with the round of 128. Ruzic is wrestling in the Junior division, again challenging himself against older wrestlers. His opponent in that round is Jermaine Peace, a two-time state champion in the five-class South Carolina system. Peace won his first state title at 113, with this last year's coming at 120. This is match #4103 for those viewing at home.
