ZANE RICHARDS DID IT AGAIN!

Beating the World Bronze Medalist seems like a monumental to-do list in itself, but there was more for Zane Richards to do. Team USA called upon him in the Championship dual: He was assigned to wrestle the first match in the Finals of the World Cup against the Iranian Senior World Team member.

Years and years of training his mind and body paid off.

All those weeks spent at intensive training camps in Russia and Azerbaijan paid off. The mentoring from guru Bryan Medlin of the ILLINI Regional Training Center paid off. Zane wrestled lights out against the Iranian, avoiding his interlocking fingers trap, and his favored shrug-bys, snaps and go-behinds, while winning a 6-2 lead off victory for the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Video of Zane's win over the Mongolian World Bronze Medalist

The key sequence in the match with Iran's Reza Hossein Momenijoujadeh was Zane posting an arm at the perfect time and place to avoid exposure, then instantaneously chain-wrestling his own crotch lift to gain exposure on his opponent.

It was beautiful.

It was timely. It was key. And at that point, I think even the Iranian knew that Zane Richards would be the winner of this epic battle. This is what that looked like:

Zane is going over, and this would give Momenijoudadeh the lead ...

... but for that beautiful post. Instead, my Iranian dude scored no exposure while Zane wrapped up a crotch lift to score two of his own.

Check out the time and score in those two images. The score was 2 to 1 in Zane's favor in both, and that crotch lift was chain-wrestled within 3 seconds of that arm post in the first image.

Congratulations to Zane Richards, Coach Medlin, the ILLINI RTC, ILLINOIS and USA Wrestling!
