Kannon Webster, Hudson Goebel, Will Baysingar, Logan Swaw and Ryan Bennett

Kannon Webster can deal with adversity.

In the semifinals of the Ironman tournament, which is highlighted in the video below, he had no less than five (5) blood timeouts and became frustrated because he uses his conditioning and will power to dominate.

Each break from the action gave his opponent a lung timeout.

The bloody nose looked like it was caused by his opponent's foot trying to kick out of Kannon's grasp, or, a few seconds later, his knee. Here's a fun video about that, and it includes cameos from Will Baysingar and 100-win Hudson Goebel:

In the finals, he again fell behind and had to come back. His physical conditioning and will power allowed him to break his opponent in the third period. (Note: College refs won't let his opponent hold up a single for thirty seconds or jump on top of Kannon's quad pod and slip in both legs. Twice!). In the third period, though, Kannon got a couple of takedowns and broke the Ponderosa wrestler on top for the 5-4 win.

It has to be noted that about fourteen or sixteen months ago, Kannon was wrestling at 120. He is now a full and tall 138-pounder. He has the arms and hands of a 6-4 man, so he may still grow. In this group picture of the ILLINOIS Ironman winners, including a heavyweight and 190 pounder, you can see how tall he is:

HUDSON GOEBEL

Another ILLINI recruit winning a tournament was Hudson Goebel. He also won the Outstanding Wrestler award and shared in the team trophy:

And there was his 100th career win:

They take their wrestling very seriously in Ohio as well. You can tell based on their posters. Wow, what a cool memento! On a side note, some of these images might not make sense until you watch the video above.

WILLIAM BAYSINGAR

Another ILLINI recruit winning a tournament and leading his team to a team victory was Prospect's Will Baysingar. Here's his bracket:

And Will's team did pretty well:

LOGAN SWAW AND RYAN BENNETT

Swaw was coming off a Donnybrook championship. He got injured in the Ironman, but still managed to place. That's what staying on the championship side of the bracket does for you. I watched Ryan Bennett wrestle at Ironman, and he is a tornado. Dude must be related to Sammie and Rocco Hayes. I love the energy. Great job to all of the ILLINI recruits!

I'm sure I'm missing some tournament wins and scores and important milestones, and I HATE THAT. Please send me a message on Twitter or Instagram or an email to thetortmaster@yahoo.com if you have any information about ILLINOIS Freshmen, redshirts or recruits. Cheers and GO ILLINI!!!

    1. Very hopeful about that, Huff! Besides everything we've talked about before, including the great coaching staff, the new facilities, the new financial incentives and on and on, now they have a World Cup champ and a Russian World champ in the mix.

Hard for the top wrestlers to go anywhere else. Cheers!
