Follow ILLINI Recruits at State(s)

HUDSON GOEBEL

Unfortunately, Hudson Goebel suffered a late-season injury that temporarily sidelines him at the worst possible time. He will not be part of the Ohio state championship series. The ILLINI have had great success with wrestlers from Ohio, and Hudson looks like the next in line. Despite the setback, he is already getting ready for freestyle and next year's folkstyle season:

I could not bench press that much in college. Haha! Seriously, earlier this year, I was thinking that Justin Cardani could out-bench press college-me. Now, I find out that ILLINI recruits in their junior year can out-bench press college-me. But, my friends, that was a simpler time, a different time, a time when Bruce was the Boss, when we weren't always at war with Eurasia, and when kids stayed off my ******* lawn!

Good luck and speedy recovery to Hudson!

KOLE BROWER

This is Kole Brower's path to another State Championship:

Kole will have company at the State tournament in the form of teammate Noah Tapia. Here's an article about how the Moline duo help each other to achieve goals, including the school takedown record once held by Matt Lackey (Kole Brower), and the school pin record (Noah Tapia).

Here is a Brower-centric tweet that needed an explanation:

And we got that explanation: "The top pic is Kole's grandpa Ken Brower who was a wrestling official for Illinois and Iowa. He passed away in 2011, and now Kole has picked up where his grandpa left off." That's Kole raising the kid's hand in the bottom photo.

The next tweet needed no explanation, but that Old School sweatshirt deserves endless props:

WILL BAYSINGAR

This is Will Baysingar's path to another State Championship:

After winning a title last year at 120, Will Baysingar described his vision quest this season to a reporter:

"'I knew I could be contender for the 126-pound state title if I had certified, but I figured if I continued to work to get bigger, stronger, and faster I could do the same at 132,' said Baysingar, who along with two-time state champion Nasir Bailey of Rich Township will be the favorites when the action begins in Champaign."

After winning his Sectional, Will got the love from his club:

KANNON WEBSTER

This is Kannon's path to another State Championship:

Kannon won his Sectional, of course, and had a few minutes to piss off an Iranian with his selections of the best freestyle wrestlers in the world:

LOL!  Good luck, young men, and may the Orange be with you!

Finally, I will be watching this broadcast later tonight at 7:00 PM (Central). It will be on Rokfin, I'm assuming, so look for it there. You get to hear from ILLINI legend Jordan Blanton and the great Izzy Martinez as they discuss the brackets:
