The Iowa lineup for the ILLINOIS dual

IOWA'S LINEUP AGAINST NORTHWESTERN

As we get closer to dual time, I always like to post the other team's latest dual box score. While the ILLINI were wrestling Rutgers on Friday, Iowa was taking on Stupid Northwestern in Evanston. Here's the box score for that event:

#2 IOWA 33, #23 NORTHWESTERN 6
125 #12 Drake Ayala (IA) dec. #7 Michael DeAugustino (NU), 6-5; 3-0
133 #9 Chris Cannon (NU) dec. Cullan Schriever (IA), 4-3; 3-3
141 #32 Frankie Tal Shahar (NU) dec. Drew Bennett (IA), 10-6; 3-6
149 #12 Max Murin (IA) dec. #5 Yayha Thomas (NU), 4-3; 6-6

184 #18 Abe Assad dec. (IA) tech. fall Jon Halvorsen (NU), 16-0; 26-6
197 #5 Jacob Warner (IA) major dec. #28 Andrew Davison (NU), 11-2; 30-6
285 #6 Tony Cassioppi (IA) dec. #17 Lucas Davison (NU), 7-3; 33-6

As you can see, Drake Ayala got another big win, while Cullan Schriever gave AA Chris Cannon a good match. That, of course, meant that Austin DeSanto was not in the lineup. Reading the tea leaves, it sure seems like DeSanto is very questionable for the ILLINOIS dual as well.

Drew Bennett filled in at 141 for Iowa as well.

Compare that Iowa lineup above with their pre-weekend list of "probables":

Cullan Schriever is the guy not mentioned in the probables. He had his redshirt pulled. The scoop on him is that he's earned a 15-4 record on the year. He was 2-1 last year as a true Freshman. Besides the loss to Chris Cannon, the Hawkeye lost to Rayvon Foley by the score of 5-10. He also lost to #40 Brayden Palmer of Chattanooga at the Southern Scuffle in overtime. Lucas Byrd beat Palmer in a dual match by the score of 13-10. At the start of the season, Schriever lost to DeSanto in an open by the score of 4-8.

Drew Bennett, the fill-in at 141, has a 2-5 record on the season. His record this year is 2-5, but overall it is a much better 27-19 after four years on the Iowa team. His best win in his career was against the #68 wrestler at 133 in 2020.
